"I Received Donations From Abramoff’s Clients"
Earlier this week, Montana Congressman Denny Rehberg (R) gave us a good example of just how out of touch congressional Republicans have become within their insulated Culture of Corruption. Now, we get another good example from Montana Sen. Conrad Burns (R).
Burns was recently listed as one of the most corrupt Members of Congress in a nonpartisan report detailing corruption in both political parties. Today, in the Helena Independent Record, Burns tries to refute the charges - and instead admits to them. That's right, Burns actually openly writes that "I received campaign donations from some of indicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff’s tribal clients" - clients at the center of Abramoff's indictment. Honestly, - need we read anything more to know Burns really is corrupt?
I have to admit - in all my time in politics, I have never seen such a high-profile politician make such a stupid move and perpetuate a story about his own clear corruption. Then again, the GOP at this point is seriously out of touch - way more so than they have even been in the past. It is reminiscent of an earlier comment that proves this. Back in May, top GOP Congressman Ray LaHood said of the swirling corruption scandals "There’s not a problem, and the issue does not resonate back home."
Really, how out of touch can these guys get?
