"Liberalism," Progressivism & the Fight Over Health Care
Just got back from my trip, and saw a recent debate over health care brewing. I have earlier written about what the core difference is between self-described "liberals" and true progressives when it comes to economic policy. And in this post and this post, Nathan Newman explores this very concept when it comes to health care and Wal-Mart. It seems the (supposedly) "liberal" intelligentsia in Washington, D.C. wants to only focus on taking health care costs off of Big Business through taxpayer subsidies - instead of having the guts to create minimum health care mandates. By doing this, Nathan argues that this D.C. intelligentsia is, in truth, stabbing the progressive movement in the back.
