George W. Bush Becomes An Electoral Albatross

It is now official: George W. Bush is an electoral albatross. Democrats pulled off big wins in New Jersey and Virginia, while in St. Paul, Minnesota a progressive Democrat knocked off a more conservative sellout Democratic incumbent who had endorsed George Bush for President. And in California, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) was thoroughly embarrassed. The only big race the Republicans seemed to manage to win was in Ohio, where they unfortunately beat back Reform Ohio Now's slate of clean-government initiatives.

Out here in the red state of Montana, it was also a good day for progressives - Ron Tussing (D) became Mayor of Billings (the key swing area of the state) despite being outspent, progressive Democrat John Engen was elected Mayor of Missoula, and right here in Helena the progressive candidate Alan Peura was elected to the city council.
