"I Don't Have Any Financial Interest In Oil"
Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) went to the Senate floor last week to defend oil industry profiteering. In the course of his floor statement, he claimed "I don't have any financial interest in oil." While it may or may not be true that he doesn't hold oil industry stock in his personal bank account, one thing is certainly a fact: he does have a financial interest in oil, in terms of making sure the industry does well enough to keep giving him huge amounts of campaign contributions. He's taken $152,000 from the oil and gas industry in his career, making that industry his 13th largest campaign contributor. I'd call that a "financial interest."
