A Deliberately Distorted Debate Over Civil Liberties

The political debate in this country is so tired and stale you can almost predict what the stories are going to be even before they are written. What's particularly sad about this is not that it gets boring - but that it distorts the actual reality to the point where we the political discourse is like some fictional fairy tale. Today's example of this comes in the coverage of the Patriot Act and the President's illegal spying operation. It is as if the entire debate from head to toe is fabricated from whole cloth, and the people running around purporting to be "strategists" are the fiction writers. Here's what I'm talking about.
