Labor Stands Strong, Courageously Demands Accountability

I've written before about the need for the labor movement to hold Democrats who sell out workers accountable. One of those is Rep. Melissa Bean (D-IL), who brazenly sold out her party and American workers with her vote for the corporate-written Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA). Now, she and her crony Rahm Emanuel (the architect of NAFTA) are whining that labor should simply cough up cash for her re-election. I'm glad labor is playing hardball - it's time for some accountability. Every two years we hear politicians tell folks to just get in line and do what's necessary "for the next election." That leads to a culture where politicians feel like they can do anything - even sell out their constituents. We should applaud the unions for standing strong, representing workers' interests, and not just being shills for Democrats who sell them out. It's time to say enough is enough - and labor is leading the way.
